Stantec can now provide a range of engineering and design services across the BBC’s real estate portfolio, supporting the corporation’s property strategy and net zero goals

07/28/2023 LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM TSX, NYSE:STN

The BBC has appointed Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design and engineering services, to its Professional Services Framework. The firm secured a place on Lot 3 - Engineering Design and Consultancy for a period of four years until 2027. The requirement for this lot includes the provision of mechanical, electrical, structural and civil, public health, fire, and security services across the BBC’s real-estate portfolio.

The BBC has a large and evolving property footprint spanning the United Kingdom and is continually looking to decarbonise. The corporation aims to reduce emissions in its direct operations by 46% and in its value chain by 28%, all by 2030. Many of the projects delivered to the BBC’s real estate portfolio as part of the framework will support these goals.

Stantec’s interdisciplinary teams will create positive environmental impacts for the BBC, using designs that incorporate low-carbon and more environmentally responsible systems, processes, and technology. From increasing biodiversity and natural ventilation, to supporting cleaner mobility for occupants and better wellbeing through lighting and acoustics expertise, the Stantec team will take a comprehensive approach to real-estate engineering.

Kevin Clarke, director of structural engineering at Stantec said: "With 30 offices and around 3,000 employees across the UK and Ireland, our national presence – as well as our extensive experience in both refurbishment and new-build projects – means we can always move quickly to meet the real-estate needs of the BBC wherever they are in the country.

“Supporting organisations like the BBC in realising their climate ambitions and reducing the impact of their operations is a key part of who we are as a business. We’re committed to being a model of sustainability and aspire to work with clients with a shared ethos of contributing to an environmentally, socially, and economically resilient future.”

The BBC’s Neil Davis, head of programme management, added: "The BBC is delighted to welcome Stantec to our Professional Services Framework. Stantec impressed us with their comprehensive approach to creating positive environmental impact through engineering projects. Their expertise will be invaluable as we work to decarbonise our extensive real estate portfolio and achieve ambitious sustainability goals.

“Stantec's impressive UK footprint and ability to mobilise quickly make them an ideal partner in modernising our infrastructure nationwide. We look forward to collaborating with their talented teams on our projects."

Stantec has a wide range of experience in this sector, working with internationally renowned broadcast and multi-media organisations to support more efficient, innovative, and sustainable operations improvements to existing buildings, through to designing world-class new facilities.
