08/10/2023 UNITED KINGDOM TSX, NYSE:STN

Stantec’s Ecology team has been highly commended in the Medium Consultancy of the Year and Best Practice – Large-Scale Mitigation categories at this year’s Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) Awards.

The CIEEM Medium Consultancy of the Year award recognises those that deliver high-quality ecological services while being exemplary employers and advocates for the profession. Stantec's ecology team-members successfully demonstrated how they provide project outcomes that benefit businesses and communities. They also provided examples of the firm’s commitment to shared learning and the professional development of its employees.

Helen Evriviades, Stantec's Technical Director and UK and Ireland Infrastructure and Buildings Ecology Team Lead said: “The Ecology team is very pleased that the positive biodiversity outcomes we deliver for our clients and the support we provide to promote development has been recognised by CIEEM.”

The CIEEM Awards also highlights projects with good outcomes for biodiversity through development and high standards of ecological and environmental management. Clifton Wastewater Treatment Works Integrated Constructed Wetland was highly commended in the Best Practice – Large-Scale Mitigation category.

Designed by Stantec for Yorkshire Water, this low energy, environmentally friendly method of wastewater treatment is the first in England to treat all flows and the first ever biodiversity net gain positive treatment works.

Using more than 24,000 wetland plants, the interconnected ponds stimulate wildlife diversity to achieve biodiversity net gain. The Environment Agency has supported the development of the project, working with Yorkshire Water, Stantec, Penny Anderson and delivery partner, Barhale Enpure JV, granting the first Operations Techniques Agreement in the UK.

Rob McTaggart, Stantec's Technical Director said, “We are thrilled by the recognition at the CIEEM Awards 2023, our project team takes pride in Clifton Wastewater Treatment Works, Integrated Constructed Wetland. A harmonious blend of nature and innovation, this commendation reaffirms our commitment to revitalising the environment while fostering a stronger, more resilient community.”
