Rachel Bannon-Godfrey, Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) impact leader at sustainable design and engineering firm, Stantec, has been included in this year’s Meaningful Business 100 (MB100). MB100 celebrates a global group of leaders who are combining profit and purpose to tackle the world’s most pressing issues.
The 5th edition of the award recognises social entrepreneurs, corporate leaders, and impact investors whose work supports the United Nation’s (UN) global goals. The winners come from 39 countries and were chosen from over 800 nominees in key industries, including technology, the built environment, financial services, recycling, education, and agriculture.
As a vice president and the UN SDG impact leader for Stantec, Bannon-Godfrey focuses on implementing a culture of sustainability across Stantec’s global project teams and design solutions, in line with the UN’s SDGs. She is responsible for fully integrating the SDGs into Stantec’s operations, project work, and culture. This includes developing the firm’s approach to tracking SDG project impact, building awareness externally among clients to help them meet their SDG commitments, and internally inspiring project teams to innovate solutions in support of the goals.
“Doing what is right is a fundamental part of our ethos at Stantec,” says Bannon-Godfrey. “I’m honoured to be recognised among this list of pioneers and sustainable leaders from a wide range of sectors, industries, and geographies, showing that good business is responsible, ethical, and profitable. The SDGs help us all take action towards the world's most pressing environmental and social challenges.”
The year-round MB100 programme, supported by EY, Hogan Lovells, and Babson College, is designed to help inspiring leaders increase their positive impact through pro bono services, tailored workshops, expert mentorship, storytelling, and exclusive networking opportunities.
“Congratulations to Rachel Bannon-Godfrey. Her work is an inspiration to us all,” says Tom Lytton-Dickie, founder and chief executive officer of Meaningful Business. “We are at a critical juncture in the 2030 agenda and there is a lot of work to be done in order to achieve the global goals. Leaders like Rachel provide a benchmark in the profit and purpose space, and we look forward to supporting their work as they continue to scale and make a substantial difference.”
Bannon-Godfrey has over 15 years of experience on projects around the world, providing design analysis and consulting on net zero energy buildings, energy efficient technologies, sustainability, climate-resilient masterplanning, and the role of climate justice in achieving sustainable development.
