Stantec wins Bridge Maintenance contract with Reading Borough Council through Perfect Circle

Stantec is supporting Reading Borough Council in managing and maintaining its bridges and highway structures

02/12/2024 London, UK TSX, NYSE: STN

Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design and engineering services, has been appointed to manage and maintain all bridges and highway structures within Reading Borough Council’s administrative boundary.

The interdisciplinary firm was awarded the Option G contract through Perfect Circle through SCAPE Consultancy, a direct award framework designed to drive collaboration, efficiency, time and cost savings. The new agreement formalises Stantec’s existing relationship and activity, following a decade of success and knowledge-building working with the council on its bridges and highway structures.

The contract, won after a fair and competitive bidding process, covers over 200 structures including 90 bridges around Reading. Many of the bridges are iconic and historic, such as Christchurch Bridge, which Stantec designed and helped to build. This was the first bridge in Reading to be built over the Thames in nearly 100 years.

Over the next six years, Stantec will be managing, monitoring and maintaining this vital infrastructure, conducting inspections and identifying any defects or remedial work needed.

Peter Chong, Director of Bridges and Rail Infrastructure at Stantec commented: “We have a fantastic and longstanding relationship with Reading Borough Council and Reading itself. From regenerating the station area and Green Park to our work with the University and on Thames Tower, wherever you look, there’s a Stantec project.

“This new contract with the council is built on a legacy of trust and will mean Reading’s bridges stay open and keep the town running as it should. Our work will mean the council will continue to have an efficient and effective maintenance programme for all this vital infrastructure across the region. Our appointment is another fantastic example of how Perfect Circle and the SCAPE Consultancy framework is adding value for local authorities and communities.”

Perfect Circle managing director Victoria Brambini added: “Stantec’s appointment via Perfect Circle to maintain Reading’s bridges is yet another example of where we are the trusted partner for the public sector.

“Reading Borough Council can be reassured that its crucial infrastructure will be maintained to the highest of standards and will leave a lasting legacy to the community.”

Mark Robinson, SCAPE Group Chief Executive said: “We are delighted that this programme of essential maintenance is being accelerated through SCAPE. This long-term investment will help Reading Borough Council to maximise the lifespan of its bridges and highways; creating an efficient and optimised transport system.”
