Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design, engineering, and environmental consulting, has been appointed to the Environment Agency’s (EA) National Groundwater Modelling Framework, joining a group of leading consultancies selected to provide specialist expertise. The interdisciplinary firm will support England’s environmental regulator over the next eight years, providing specialist regional groundwater modelling and technical review services for the EA’s groundwater modelling programme.
Technical support to boost climate resilience
The framework has an overall estimated value of £17.8 million. Stantec’s teams will support the EA with sustainable management and protection of groundwater resources across England, providing specialist data and insight to add significant value when managing impacts on water resources in a changing climate. Stantec will also provide technical support for modelling through independent technical review services, aiming to assist the EA in confirming projects have been technically well enacted and implemented.
“The importance of regional water resource security has become increasingly clear this summer, and considering the impacts of climate change, we can expect this issue to become even more urgent in the years to come,” said Jamie Woods, Stantec’s UK regional business lead for Environmental Services. “Making use of innovative and accurate groundwater modelling is a vital factor when preparing to meet this challenge, and we’re proud to be supporting Environment Agency with these national resilience efforts.”
Sustainability and social value are integral to the Groundwater Modelling Framework and underpin its design, procurement, and delivery. As part of Stantec’s work, the Company will engage with local schools and universities, conducting STEM sessions that aim to raise awareness of the evolving, dynamic career paths available across the built environment sector. Stantec will also demonstrate the value of its early careers and work experience programmes, supporting local apprenticeships, graduate prospects, and work experience placements.
A growing team of specialists
“Our technical modelling teams are one of the largest and most experienced in the country, having supported water companies nationwide with their groundwater modelling strategies”, said Scott Jackson, Stantec’s regional business lead for Water. “We are excited to help inspire the next generation of built environment professionals and shed light on the career prospects available for anyone entering the jobs market who wants to use creativity and ingenuity to better improve and understand the natural world.”
Stantec is also supporting Environment Agency with national flood resilience on the GCA CPS2 framework, as well as natural conservation efforts on its Ecological Services Framework 4.
