Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design, engineering, and environmental consulting, has been appointed to a multimillion-pound framework supporting University Hospitals of Northamptonshire (UHN) NHS Group capital investment programme.
As part of the group’s new multidisciplinary framework, Stantec will provide a broad range of integrated services to help develop UHN’s healthcare estates over the next four years. These services include civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), and fire safety engineering as well as project management, planning, infrastructure, environmental, and geotechnical services.
Through a single point of access, Stantec will connect UHN with the specialist skills needed to deliver complex healthcare improvement works aligned with the Government’s New Hospitals Programme (NHP). Stantec is leading a framework team that includes GBS Architects for architectural services and Currie & Brown for project management.
Multiple immediate appointments
Secured through the NHS Shared Business Services (NHS SBS) framework, the appointment has already led to four initial project commissions from UHN.
These include:
- The relocation of the Estates Team to facilitate the future delivery of a new multi-storey car park
- The refurbishment of the emergency department at UHN’s Kettering site
- Delivery of a new urgent treatment centre in Kettering
- The refurbishment of the emergency department at Northampton General Hospital
Stantec’s ability to provide a fully integrated multidisciplinary service was a key factor in the appointment. The trust valued working with one coordinated delivery partner that can respond to estate challenges while drawing on experience across multiple disciplines.
Creating modern, resilient estates
UHN’s refurbishment programmes are expected to address operational challenges across the group’s existing healthcare facilities by improving building performance, supporting modern clinical requirements, and advancing long-term sustainability goals. The work will include complex engineering and building performance upgrades to create more resilient healthcare environments and support the NHP.
“Upgrading Britain’s hospitals to meet growing resilience challenges is more urgent than ever,” said Bryan Murray, director of Buildings for Stantec in the UK. “Our proven track record delivering complex multidisciplinary services that can respond quickly to evolving estate requirements will be put to good use for UHN. Our team is looking forward to carrying out a comprehensive range of vital and complex projects over the next four years and contributing to the future success of the NHS.”
The appointment also reinforces Stantec’s growing client offering for the UK healthcare sector.
