Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design, engineering, and environmental consulting, has been selected to provide civil and structural (C&S), and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineering services for Samlesbury Innovation Hub, one of the North West’s most innovative technology projects.
Located on the former BAE Systems brownfield site, part of Lancashire County Council’s Samlesbury Enterprise Zone, the £13.2 million development will provide up to 30,000 square feet of flexible workspaces, meeting facilities, and collaboration areas for companies in aerospace, defence, advanced manufacturing, engineering, and cyber-technology.
Driving innovation and investment
Once complete, the Innovation Hub will foster collaboration between businesses, academic institutions, and research organisations to develop new products and services, strengthen supply chains, and support regional innovation, high-value jobs, and local investment.
Stantec’s Manchester-based buildings engineering specialists have joined the design team delivering the Samlesbury Innovation Hub as a premium, future-ready facility that supports Lancashire’s innovation-led growth. The team will develop a technically robust, cost-effective, and adaptable C&S solution alongside Manchester-based architect AEW and Lancashire-based PM/QS firm Make NW and aligned with Lancashire County Council’s strategic objectives. Stantec’s MEP team will also provide MEP design works to support the creation of a new sustainable, collaborative technology environment. The firm’s UK Buildings division comprises more than 400 C&S and MEP technical staff across regional offices throughout England, Scotland, and Wales.
A regionally strategic and complex development
“We are proud to contribute to this unique, strategically important regional project which will inspire the thriving innovation community, boost the local economy, and help strengthen nationally important sectors,” said Danny Hope, regional director for the North West for Stantec in the UK. “Our teams understand the complex building design processes and challenges associated with delivering essential technology facilities like Samlesbury Innovation hub, and we are looking forward to showcasing our capabilities.”
