As a process engineer with 30 years of experience in design for the treatment of wastewater and sludge, Joe has more recently focused on thermal hydrolysis plants. He also has expertise on assessing the potential impact on existing wastewater treatment works of increased return loads from advanced digestion and liquor treatment plants.
Joe’s knowledge has been developed for many clients in the United Kingdom, such as Thames Water, Welsh Water, and Severn Trent Water, as well as the United States, including San Francisco, California; Piscataway, Virginia; and Denver, Colorado. He has worked on process commissioning of several schemes, including digester seeding and start-up and performance testing, and has subsequently provided process assistance and optimization.
Outside of work, Joe enjoys all sports—especially soccer and cricket—as well as crosswords and puzzles and has a keen interest in environmental issues. He also enjoys walking in South Wales where he lives with his partner and twin teenage sons.
