Sustainable redevelopment maximises landholding value

Farmcare is a lowland farming organisation that stewards 18,000 acres of land and works with farming contractors to support the food service, retail, and trade sectors. When they wanted to restore and redevelop some of their land in Down Ampney Estate in the Cotswolds, they brought our team in to assist.

To date, our job has been a suite of integrated ecological and landscape studies at four sites. The information we gathered ensured options were explored in regard to the setting of the buildings and their use by protected species, including roosting bats and barn owls. This helped to ensure compliance with wildlife legislation and planning policy, whilst meeting Farmcare’s aspirations for each site.

This cross-disciplinary approach was later extended to encompass other planning and technical disciplines. This ensured landscape, ecological, and hydrological considerations jointly defined design requirements, informed proposals, and reduced design iterations. Farmcare are now ready to provide much-needed, on-site accommodation for farm workers and improved efficiency of farming operations.
