Dujardin Mews, Enfield

Dujardin Mews is the first social housing to be built directly by the London Borough of Enfield for around 40 years. It forms the first phase of the wider Ponders End programme to provide replacement homes for the neighbouring Alma Estate.

We were appointed directly by the local authority for the construction of approximately 50 units that are both high quality and affordable. Providing structural and civil engineering services from inception to handover, our team designed functional hard and soft landscaping that incorporated sustainable urban drainage systems. A key challenge was to obtain buy-in from Enfield council to adopt and maintain these systems, which were unconventional at the time of contract. Another challenge was to coordinate the substructure design around existing redundant buried infrastructure. To realise the architect’s ambitious scheme, our engineering teams employed a range of structural materials from load bearing masonry to timber, steel frames, and precast concrete.

Our engineering assisted in realising an impressive quality of housing for an affordable development. The success of Dujardin Mews is unprecedented for a local, authority-led public housing project and is the result of an ambitious and cohesive client and design team.
