Magdalen Green Footbridge Consultation Support – Dundee City Council

Magdalen Green is one of the oldest parks in the West End of Dundee, Scotland. When an out-dated railway footbridge needed replacing, Dundee City Council commissioned us to conduct community engagement for proposed improvements to the bridge and its steep steps—improvements that would increase accessibility for people with reduced mobility, as well as making the bridge suitable for cycling.

To support the Council, our work involved holding a number of in-person and online events to engage with stakeholders and the local community about their concerns with the proposals, which included the potential removal of cherished cherry trees. We communicated their concerns to Dundee City Council, along with recommendations to mitigate the work of removal. In addition, we helped the Council apply for Sustrans Places for Everyone (PfE) funding (Stages 0-2) which involved producing community engagement documentation, a Behaviour Change Plan, and Monitoring and Evaluation Plan. We also evaluated routes that could connect the park to further afield to the north and south, increasing the benefit of the upgraded bridge.

Our work helped secure Stage 3-4 funding from Sustrans. Currently, we’re supporting the Council with applying for funding for construction and beyond.
