Northumbrian Water Limited - PAS 2080 Assessment and Implementation Plan

In 2024, Northumbrian Water Limited (NWL) signed up to the Construction Leadership Council Five Client Carbon Commitments. One of these commitments requires NWL to achieve certification under the BSI PAS 2080 standard for carbon management in buildings and infrastructure. To support this goal, NWL asked us to help them develop a PAS 2080 implementation plan.

We started by reviewing NWL’s current carbon management practices, building on our previous work with them. Adding to this understanding, we conducted a workshop and one-on-one interviews with key parties across NWL and some of their value chain partners. This process gave us a clear picture of NWL’s maturity against PAS 2080 requirements. We then identified gaps and addressed them in the implementation plan, focusing on areas such as leadership, decision-making, governance, communications, and collaboration. Actions include immediate priorities, next-year steps, and goals beyond certification.

We are now helping NWL put the plan into action to embed carbon management process and support both their wider carbon goals and contribution to the UK’s net zero targets.
