Paisley to Renfrew Cycle Route

Renfrewshire Council is committed to the Scottish government’s sustainable transport aspirations and has developed a cycle strategy for their area. Within the strategy is an aspiration to provide a 6.5 kilometre-long active travel connection between the Renfrew Ferry and Paisley Gilmour Street Station.

The route would connect two public transport hubs to create a sustainable travel network and encourage walking and cycling. It will provide links along the route to key destinations such as schools, colleges and centres of employment in the area, making the towns feel friendlier, safer and more accessible. Stantec successfully tendered for the opportunity to develop the Paisley to Renfrew Cycle Route from concept through to detailed design. Our team developed concept design options, in collaboration with Renfrewshire Council and Sustrans, and prepared detailed design drawings and specifications for the preferred route to inform a construction tender process. The study included undertaking a State 2 Cycle Audit and the production of an equality impact assessment (EqIA), behaviour change strategy and monitoring and evaluation strategy.

Upon completion, our work will help the council to enhance the active travel network in their area and provide them with the means to educate local communities on active travel and monitor future use of the new facility to inform future active travel investment plans.
