With campuses in London, Los Angeles, Ibiza, and online, pointblank music school is a global leader in music education, specialising in creative music production, sound engineering, vocal performance, songwriting and DJing. In 2024, the school expanded their London campus on Penn Street, Shoreditch, increasing its footprint by 1,765 square metres through the refurbishment of the ground floor and basement of a former warehouse building.
The project transformed the space into an updated teaching environment and included a new performance hub, Dolby Atmos recording studios, and specialist DJ and production suites. The campus now features six production studios, each equipped with 16 industry-standard workstations, alongside dedicated learning, collaboration and performance spaces. It also supports student performances, live events and masterclasses from industry professionals, creating opportunities for students to gain experience in a professional setting.
Working alongside LOM Architecture and Design, our multidisciplinary team provided engineering services from concept through to installation, helping deliver a modern learning environment capable of supporting pointblank's advanced technical and operational requirements. A key challenge was securing sufficient electrical capacity to meet the demands of specialist studio equipment, lighting and cooling systems. We managed the application process for an upgraded power supply and liaised closely with the utility provider to coordinate delivery.
Our electrical design included power distribution, lighting, security systems, specialist equipment supplies and a comprehensive containment strategy. We also delivered a full Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Stage 4 design package to support construction. With limited floor-to-ceiling heights throughout the building, careful coordination of services was essential. We developed solutions that optimised available space while maintaining performance and accessibility. Our structural engineers surveyed existing elements, supported wall removals, and advised on service routes, while our mechanical engineers designed the ventilation, heating and cooling systems required. Additionally, we developed the fire strategy, and our acoustic specialists provided early design input to support the high level of sound performance expected at a professional music education facility.
The completed campus now provides students with industry-leading facilities, supported by integrated engineering solutions that enable teaching, recording and performance at the highest standard.
