Solar Battery Energy Storage System Technical and Environmental Consulting

A renewable energy developer of solar photovoltaics (PV) with battery energy storage systems (BESS) wanted to explore a utility scale scheme in England. They commissioned us to provide technical and environmental services in support of scheme definition.

As part of our technical consultation, our transmission and distribution team assessed potential configuration options for a one gigawatt (GW) ground mounted solar array, as well as locations for substations and the large BESS. We identified the generating capacity of the land parcels considered for the project, mapping cable route corridor options for interconnecting the generation and the point of connection, and prepared electrical plans and drawings.

We also provided environmental and planning support for the scheme. This included identifying planning, environmental, and other technical constraints that could impact the scheme definition and laying out a planning consent strategy. Additionally, we performed further site layout refinement and assessment of the solar PV arrays arrangement to better quantify land space requirements and inform preliminary electrical distribution and transmission asset need.

We continue to support the client with their development of this large scheme as it progresses.
