Southern Water has set an ambitious target of reducing pollution incidents to zero by 2040.

Our Stantec team led on the delivery of their transformational Pollution Reduction Programme (PRP) to help turn this vision into a reality.

By performing extensive study work in the areas of abstraction management, bioresources, flood avoidance and wastewater treatment compliance, our team set a clear vision of how to achieve the zero target and provide a structured approach to knowledge-sharing, problem-solving and decision-making that joins-up all Southern Water’s pollution reduction-related activities.

Utilizing smart networks has improved the quality and quantity of asset data which has been analysed to improve processes and deliver a fast and effective response; improving the data from their networks and using it to inform proactive activity.

This evidence-based approach, includes a review of best practice and is adaptive, enabling Southern Water to target attention and investment in the areas which will deliver the biggest reduction in pollution incidents. It also means identified and prioritizes those sites where the environmental consequences of pollution are greatest.
