Delivering an award-winning risk management training programme

Southern Water embarked on an ambitious risk transformation programme in order to address gaps and align with their risk maturity aspiration. Our team was appointed to develop and deliver the training to approximately 400 employees (engineering and project community staff) to assure the new process, procedures and system developed were understood, in parallel increasing risk management capability, addressing the gap within the organisation.

A three-tiered training programme was developed, known as the Passport to Risk Management, with each tier known as a visa. The three visas within the passport to risk management programme were: risk principles (an e-learning module), system training, and a full day a full-day, trainer-led, interactive course. The training programme lasted 6 months with 19% increase in the knowledge and maturity level. The average score (on a scale of 1-5) rose from 3.37 prior to training, to 4.31 afterwards.

The increase in community engagement was clear. With better data being captured for interpretation, reporting and decision making, our client was extremely satisfied with the results. As a result, Stantec will deliver all future risk management training that aligns with the change programme for Southern Water.
