Temple Reach transforms a former waste processing site in Bristol into a new addition to the city’s Temple Quarter. Standing 22 storeys high, it features 531 purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) rooms alongside 4,300 square feet (399 square metres) of workspace. More than half of the site is dedicated to public realm including a new riverside amphitheatre and enhanced pedestrian connections along the River Avon.
Working with Bowmer + Kirkland (B+K) for Cubex, our multidisciplinary team is supporting the project’s progression from pre-construction through Gateway 2 and into delivery. We are providing civil and structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering in addition to fire safety, acoustics, flood risk, and geotechnical services.
Building on our experience of collaborating with B+K on delivery of a neighbouring PBSA scheme at 40–46 Albert Road, we provided continuity of approach and the expertise required to overcome some recurring challenges. These included integration with existing river wall infrastructure, managing flood and surface water risk, and coordinating connections to surrounding pedestrian networks. Careful design and coordination were key to project delivery within the constrained urban site.
Temple Reach contributes to the ongoing transformation of Bristol’s Temple Quarter. It will deliver much-needed, high-quality student accommodation and workspace, while enhancing public access to the riverside. The scheme creates a vibrant new destination that supports the University of Bristol’s Enterprise Campus and wider regeneration ambitions, strengthening connectivity, supporting local economic activity, and providing a welcoming new public space for the city. It is due for completion ahead of the 2029 academic year.
