Transport Economic Cases, Medway Council

Medway Council approached us to help develop three economic cases for three transport schemes in Medway, an area in the southeast of England. These three cases—the Medway river taxi, Medway cycling area, and Chatham town centre placemaking improvement scheme—were needed to support wider transport business cases to be submitted as a funding application to the South East Local Enterprise Partnership.

Our teams used data and guidance provided by Medway Council to create a cost-benefit analysis and option appraisal to identify the best solutions for each of the three schemes.

All work complied with the Department for Transport’s WebTAG and transport business case guidance and included the impacts on journey times, demand forecasts, cost analysis, local economy impacts and, crucially, a benefit-cost ratio. The cases were then submitted to southeast Local Enterprise Partnership, and all received funding.
