George Mason University (GMU) wanted to add a new building to their Science and Technology Campus, one that would support multidisciplinary curricula in science, technology, engineering, and health. They reached out to our team to help.
Rather than organizing the space by department, we embraced a typology-based concept, fostering collaboration across disciplines. The Life Sciences and Engineering Building (LSEB) houses highly specialized spaces for instructional dry and wet labs, human performance, and student design, reinforcing a culture of discovery. These dynamic spaces encourage student and faculty interaction and enhance hands-on learning and technological innovation.
Beyond its function, LSEB fosters a vibrant and active campus environment. Facing the main campus circulation path, transparent ground-level engineering labs and open student design bays create a sense of energy and accessibility. By drawing people inside and providing flexible, engaging learning environments, the building supports GMU’s commitment to the community and students in an ever-evolving academic landscape.
