Stantec-designed academic medical center breaks ground in Miami

June 10, 2026

The seven-story facility will bring medical education, research, outpatient care, and interprofessional training together

Construction recently started on the new Stantec-designed seven-story, 163,000-square-foot Helen and Jacob Shaham Academic Medical Center. The project, recently featured in Healthcare Facilities Today, is a collaboration between Florida International University (FIU), South Florida’s public research university, and Baptist Health South Florida.

Located on FIU’s Modesto A. Maidique campus, the US$162 million advanced facility underscores FIU’s commitment to academic excellence and clinical research and reflects the growth of the FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine.

Our design reflects the brand identity and shared values of FIU and Baptist Health, further strengthening their collaborative partnership. We are providing architecture, medical planning, sustainability consulting, and other specialty services.
