Paula and Joseph C. (Rusty) Walter III Tower and Centennial Tower
The Paula and Joseph C. (Rusty) Walter III Tower and Centennial Tower strengthen Houston Methodist’s position as a leading academic medical center. They seamlessly integrate outpatient, inpatient, and research spaces into a cohesive, identifiable campus in the Texas Medical Center (TMC). Designed with precision by Stantec, these high-performance towers elevate architecture and patient care to new heights.
Completed in 2018, Walter Tower features sophisticated cancer, neurosurgery, and cardiovascular surgical suites engineered for minimally invasive, image-guided heart and brain procedures. The tower also houses two intensive-care and six acute-care floors, as well as a dedicated cancer and bone marrow transplant unit.
Centennial Tower expands capacity and capabilities with additional patient beds, an enhanced emergency department, and advanced neuro- and cardiovascular surgical suites. Upon completion (scheduled for 2027), it will be the most technologically advanced, digitally integrated hospital in the system.
The exterior of the 22-story, 1-million-square foot (92,903-square metre) Walter Tower features a sophisticated glass curtainwall and metal paneling that reflect the Texas sky, while the 29-story Centennial Tower's warm wood-clad canopy with an oculus provides a distinctive entry experience. Interior spaces maximize openness, light, and comfort, while the curvilinear (or “boomerang”) shape provides spectacular cityscape views for patients and caregivers.
Innovation is at the heart of these towers, where leading-edge technology meets world-class patient care. Designed to support the most advanced surgical and diagnostic capabilities, these towers set new healthcare standards.
