09/06/2023 EDMONTON, AB; NEW YORK, NY TSX, NYSE:STN

Stantec, a global leader in design and engineering, has promoted Dana Hollins, MPH, CIH, to director of Stantec ChemRisk, its health sciences consulting division. Hollins has more than 17 years of experience in industrial hygiene, environmental and occupational epidemiology, chemical exposure assessment, and human health risk assessment.

ChemRisk specializes in providing state-of-the-art toxicology, industrial hygiene, epidemiology, and risk-assessment services to organizations facing public health, occupational health, and environmental challenges. Hollins will be responsible for growing and managing ChemRisk’s business and clients in these fields.

“Our ChemRisk team has a strong spirit of innovation and creativity in solving complex scientific problems using a multidisciplinary approach, whether it’s in the workplace or in the broader community,” Hollins said. “I am excited about empowering our scientists to do their best work and building on our legacy of scientific technical excellence.”

A certified industrial hygienist, Hollins’s career has focused on evaluating chemical exposures and their risk to consumers, communities, and workers. Her work has involved researching and measuring exposure to a variety of chemicals such as asbestos, diesel exhaust, particulates, chemical dispersants, volatile organic components, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.

Hollins has conducted hundreds of health-risk and chemical-exposure assessments in consumer products, the workplace, households, and the wider environment. Her expertise is using data-driven assessments to evaluate worker exposure to chemicals. She has spent her entire career at ChemRisk, starting as an intern and rising to senior principal health scientist. She takes over the director role from Mark Garavaglia, who is retiring.

“ChemRisk routinely presents our health expertise to clients, government agencies, and scientific advisory panels,” said Susan Reisbord, executive vice president of Stantec’s Environmental Services. “As our health consulting business continues to grow, Dana is the ideal leader to bring innovation and teamwork to building and strengthening our relationships with clients across our industry.”

Hollins serves on the editorial board for the journal Toxicology and Industrial Health and served on the American Industrial Health Association’s (AIHA) Covid-19 Re-Open American Guidelines Task Force. She is the recipient of the 2020 AIHA Howard Kusnetz award. This award recognizes an industrial hygienist that exhibits high ethical standards and technical abilities and ensures the highest standards for health and safety protection of workers. Hollins has a master’s degree from the University of Michigan in occupational and environmental epidemiology and a bachelor’s degree in organizational management, also from the University of Michigan. She has been published in a wide variety of peer-reviewed journals and has been invited to give a number of scientific presentations.
