04/24/2024 OMAHA, NE TSX,NYSE:STN

Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design and engineering, has hired Mike LaViolette as its new US bridges sector lead. In this newly created role, LaViolette will be responsible for growing the firm’s bridges sector across the United States, working closely with Murray Johnson, Stantec’s bridge sector leader for Canada. LaViolette joins Stantec from HDR, where he served as national bridge sector leader. He brings more than 30 years of experience in complex bridge design and construction engineering services and has extensive experience in business development related to major bridges across the US. This experience will be a key part of his new role, winning new work through strong positioning and proposals, developing client relationships, and enhancing Stantec’s brand in the bridges market.

LaViolette is active in several national technical societies including the Transportation Research Board (TRB), the National Steel Bridge Alliance, and the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI), where he has been a member of the national bridge committee since 2004. His recent projects include the Governor Mario Cuomo (Tappan Zee) Bridge in New York, a tied arch and two segmental bridges for the Ontario Line in Toronto.

“Throughout my career, I’ve taken great pride in creating functional and beautiful landmarks that will be part of communities for years to come,” said LaViolette. “Stantec’s commitment to community-driven design made my decision to join the team an easy choice. I welcome the opportunity to help Stantec grow its bridges sector across North America and look forward to supporting the impactful work of their bridges team.”

“Stantec is dedicated to providing its clients and the communities with forward-thinking, sustainable bridge design,” said Dave Sauve, senior vice president and transportation business leader for Stantec. “Mike’s extensive background and unique perspective on the industry will be a valuable addition to our team and will greatly support the work we do in better connecting communities.”

Stantec’s Bridges practice has successfully delivered hundreds of projects across North America and globally. In Livingston County, Kentucky, the firm helped replace the Smithland Bridge, a historic bridge that served as the only crossing for miles. The company also recently partnered with Skydio and the Nevada Department of Transportation on inspection efforts of the Mike-Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge. Stantec also recently supported the monitoring of a cable-stayed bridge in Denver, Colorado through drone and digital twin technologies.
