City of Victoria—Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventories and Emissions Management

Our integrated approach supported the City of Victoria with the development of their energy management and GHG emissions reduction programs

Helping British Columbia’s capital city benchmark and prioritize its energy and GHG as part of the Climate Leadership Policy

Aligning with the Global Protocol for Community-Scale Greenhouse Gases (GPC), we provided the City of Victoria with a GHG emissions inventory report. Completing a BASIC+ Scope 3 analysis and GHG inventory assessment, source consideration included stationary energy sources (power generation and consumption), mobile combustion, solid waste disposal, wastewater, industrial process and product use, agriculture, forestry, and other land use. Using our report, the city prioritized areas for GHG reduction.

With priorities identified, the City requested our assistance with preparing its corporate energy and emissions management system (CEEMS). Under CEEMS, we helped prioritize and manage their energy and GHG emissions reduction programs. Our integrated approach ensured engagement and integration across relevant policies, programs, procedures, standards, practices, regulations, and information. CEEMS will assist the City in implementing its long-term financial and productivity improvements by employing continuous monitoring and management.

Finally, we recently prepared a policy brief on the building energy benchmarking regulations and financial tools, supporting the City’s climate leadership policy development. Together, using these pieces, the City will be able to action its 2050 goals—100% renewable energy and 80% reduction in GHG emission.
