Introducing the recipients of the 2024 Equity & Diversity Scholarship

February 21, 2024

In its fourth year, the Equity & Diversity Scholarship provides support to underrepresented communities in STEAM fields

For our fourth annual Equity and Diversity (E&D) Scholarship, 46 students focused on a career in science, technology, engineering, arts, or math (STEAM)—out of a total of 779 applicants from around the globe—were selected to receive funding for their continued education.

Representing the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Peru, the selected students are currently pursuing their education in a wide range of disciplines, including computer programming, Indigenous studies, psychology, engineering, neuroscience, economics, mechatronics, biology, animal sciences and more. Several of the recipients also participate in organizations Stantec sponsors, such as the National Society of Black Engineers, Society of Women Engineers, Engineers Without Borders, Habitat for Humanity, Canadian Mental Health Association, Women in Science and Engineering, and more.

As well as the scholarships, internships have been given to seven recipients. These interns will be part of our BC Hydro (Toronto), Water (Austin, Pasadena), Environmental Services (Whitehorse), Transportation (Waterloo, Montreal, Markham) groups.

The scholarship highlights one aspect of the Company’s dedication to fairness and inclusion and diversity—allocating resources to STEAM education is part of our efforts to support racial and social equity. The $200,000 scholarship fund is intended to further educational opportunities for and provide financial aid to students from historically underrepresented communities such as Black and Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC).

The E&D Scholarship is designed to attract and retain a diverse and talented workforce and supports the next generation in pursuing and achieving their academic goals. Aligned with our identity and core values, this program is one of the many examples of how we engage our communities and help to remove obstacles, empowering the future leaders and champions of our industry.
