From remote dam sites to complex energy infrastructure design, Stefan Young’s days are filled with important projects. As a civil engineer, Stefan supports a wide range of energy and water projects that help power and protect communities.
One day, he’s in the office. The next, he might be in the field. In the office, Stefan focuses on hydraulics and hydrology modeling, spreadsheets, and developing technical outputs for reports. In the field, he conducts site assessments for existing and new dams, evaluates drainage, and provides construction observation support—often spending weeks at a time on active sites. One of his early field experiences included supporting construction of a new spillway at a remote northern mine.
Before joining Stantec full time, Stefan interned for several summers while completing his degree. He now contributes to large‑scale, world‑class projects such as Gross Reservoir and Chimney Hollow Dam, working alongside experienced engineers and industry leaders.
Mentorship, flexibility, and career growth are central to Stefan’s experience. With opportunities to explore different paths within the company, he’s able to build technical expertise while shaping a career that evolves. Outside of work, he enjoys staying active through fitness, photography, travel, and hiking.
