Declaration reinforces the Company’s commitment to diversity and inclusion in a safe, equal opportunity workplace

05/10/2022 EDMONTON, AB; NEW YORK, NY TSX, NYSE:STN

Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design and engineering, celebrates signing the Declaration of Amsterdam which was developed by Workplace Pride. Based in Amsterdam, Workplace Pride is a non-profit organization and corporate advisor dedicated to pushing the boundaries of LGBTIQ+ inclusion in the workplace through awareness, measurement, research, training, and network building. Stantec is the 39th international organization to sign the Declaration of Amsterdam, joining IBM, PwC, Shell, Microsoft and others to commit to a safe and inclusive corporate culture.

“Stantec cannot be successful unless every employee feels safe, supported, and empowered to bring their true selves to work - every single day,” says Gord Johnston, Stantec’s chief executive officer. “Signing the Declaration of Amsterdam is one way our company continues to show our commitment to our employees, and establish that our work environments globally are rooted in inclusion, opportunity, and respect.”

The Declaration of Amsterdam is a document that captures the commitment organizations across the globe make to LGBTIQ+ employees. The declaration encourages:

  • Inclusive corporate cultures where LGBTIQ+ employees feel valued, can be their authentic selves and realize their full potential
  • Working environments for LGBTIQ+ people that go beyond minimum legal requirements of equality
  • Active leadership from straight/heterosexual allies and LGBTIQ+ role models who visibly support LGBTIQ+ inclusive workplaces
  • Dedicated, declared, and active collaboration between employers and LGBTIQ+ employees to realize mutually beneficial improvements

“All of us at Workplace Pride are delighted that Stantec is signing the Declaration of Amsterdam. This important step is a confirmation from the highest levels in the organisation that LGBTIQ+ inclusion at Stantec is taken seriously and that they are well on the way to creating workplaces where everyone can be themselves. I applaud the leadership for aspiring to do more and we are committed to help them on their journey.” says David Pollard, executive director, Workplace Pride.

Stantec joined Workplace Pride in 2021. The Firm was graded against Workplace Pride’s Global Benchmark, which provides a way to measure, monitor, and further our LGBTIQ+ inclusion and diversity efforts. Stantec scored well above the median, which is a remarkable achievement for a firm participating for the first time in the Benchmark.

Stantec recently formalized a Global Pride Committee, which is a new addition to the Company’s Inclusion and Diversity Council structure. The Committee helps advance LGBTIQ+ inclusion and equity across the Company by recommending ways to make Stantec’s policies and practices more inclusive, coordinating LGBTIQ+ partnerships and programs, while supporting Stantec’s 14 chapters Pride@Stantec employee resource groups around the world.
