Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design and engineering, has received a prestigious Mérites du français award from the Office québécois de la langue française, Quebec’s French language bureau, in recognition of its commitment to promoting French in its workplace.

The award was presented during the Mérites du français gala held on May 15, 2023 in Montreal. Since 1990, the gala has celebrated individuals and organizations that demonstrate initiative in promoting French in their businesses. Stantec was a winner in the French Workplace category for businesses with 100 or more employees.

“We are honoured to receive this award, which reflects our commitment to providing our employees with the opportunity to work and thrive in a stimulating French-speaking environment,” said Isabelle Jodoin, Stantec’s senior vice president for Quebec. “Our team’s success is in part due to its ability to work in French, serve our thousands of clients in the province, and have strong ties with the community.”

Stantec has made and continues to make significant strides in ensuring that its employees have access to quality information, tools, training and development programs in French. The organization also relies on an experienced in-house translation team and a francization committee, which advocates for the use of French in the workplace.

Among the recent initiatives introduced by Stantec in Quebec are the creation of the employee resource group Fierté@Stantec, the Quebec counterpart of Pride@Stantec, which provides employees in the LGBTQ+ community and their allies with a platform for education, networking and awareness, and the Quebec chapter of the Developing Professionals Group, one of 160 chapters around the world, which was set up in 2022 to offer opportunities for networking, mentorship and training.

The Mérites du français award is the latest in a number of distinctions received by Stantec that celebrate the quality of its workplace. The firm was recently named 2023 Employer of the Year by Montreal’s Downtown Business Development Corporation and was included in Bloomberg's 2023 Gender-Equality Index for the fourth consecutive year.
