How do I apply for a graduate position?
On-line applications open March/April each year. You’ll need your CV, a cover letter and your academic transcript/s. If successful, you must have the right to live and work in New Zealand; a full, clean drivers licence; and have completed your degree before your start date.
What degree disciplines are required?
We generally look for graduates who've completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in:
- Civil Engineering–including an interest in water, structural, transportation and geotechnical
- Electrical Engineering
- Engineering Geology
- Engineering Science
- Geography
- Mechanical Engineering
We also consider students who've completed their BEng Tech or NZDE Civil.
Where can I work?
We have 17 offices throughout New Zealand, from Whangārei to Invercargill. If you have a location preference then let us know. For 2022, the most likely locations for graduates will be Auckland, Hamilton, Hastings and Nelson.
If successful, when will I commence?
We aim for a late January start. If you've already graduated, we may be able to negotiate an earlier start.

Stantec offers a market rated and competitive remuneration package.
What do you consider when reviewing applications?
In addition to your academic achievements, any paid and voluntary roles you have undertaken to date are also important, like leadership roles in school or university, or volunteering for your local sports club or community groups. We also consider how you express yourself in a cover letter, and the professionalism of your CV.
