Slough Wider Area Growth Study

Identifying where the next round of strategic growth should go in Eastern Berkshire

Helping Slough and other Eastern Berkshire and Southern Buckinghamshire districts find new land for homes

The Thames Valley is one of England’s strongest housing markets and one of the least affordable parts of England in which to live. It’s an area of great economic potential, driven by proximity to Heathrow and the arrival of Cross Rail.

But identifying new land for homes is complex. Slough is at the core of the Thames Valley area but is already built up to its borough boundary. Its adjacent Councils, South Buckinghamshire and the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, are environmentally constrained and largely green belt designated.

We provided evidence to support an area of search for new housing—an area where homes could be provided that still meet the needs of existing and future residents of Slough, Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, and South Buckinghamshire. An area where the new residents could still support the booming Thames Valley economy.

The Councils are now working with their neighbours to identify new housing sites within this area for future use.
