Stetson University Planning and Design
Stantec’s partnership with Stetson University began with a comprehensive housing study on the DeLand campus, bringing together campus leadership and students to align the university’s mission and the president’s vision.
This collaboration led to two key initiatives: the design of a first-year residence hall to advance the housing plan and the development of a campus-wide strategy to plan and prioritize building use across the DeLand and Gulfport campuses in support of strategic long-term growth and efficiency.
The housing portfolio was evaluated for renovations and new construction, with a focus on community building, modernization, accessibility, and competitive amenities. When high renovation costs for first-year halls were identified, the team explored new construction options—assessing locations, unit types, and a phased approach to improving campus housing.
In collaboration with Stetson University, the team established four guiding themes for the campus plan—enhancing the campus experience, celebrating Stetson’s identity, promoting sustainability, and optimizing space—to inform housing decisions and support a cohesive, long-term vision for the DeLand and Gulfport campuses.
The new residence hall represents the first phase of the Housing Master Plan and reflects findings from the housing study, advancing a phased approach to improving campus housing while delivering modern, competitive living environment for current and future students.
Ongoing engagement with campus stakeholders ensured the planning framework reflected academic, residential, and operational priorities, positioning Stetson to make informed housing investments that support student life and long-term campus growth.
