Stantec renews commitment to the Scottish Business Pledge

Furthering economic growth by promoting equality and opportunity

12/01/2020 SCOTLAND; TSX, NYSE:STN

Stantec has reconfirmed its commitment to the Scottish Business Pledge, renewing its promise to promote fairness, equality, opportunity, and innovation in Scotland.

The Scottish Business Pledge is a values-led partnership between Government and businesses that aims to increase productivity and competitiveness through equality and sustainable employment.

744 businesses are currently signed up to the pledge including Balfour Beatty, EDF Energy, Microsoft, WYG, Skanska, and Doig + Smith.

“Reaffirming our commitment to the pledge is important for us as a business and for the communities we work with in Scotland,” commented Michael Parkinson, Director, North and Scotland, Infrastructure & Buildings, Stantec.” The pledge aligns with our core values to put people first and to do the right thing but also with our commitment to create better communities around the world. Through our pledge we will be contributing to economic growth that will bring improved public services and infrastructure to the communities at the heart of our business.”

In 2019, the Scottish Business Pledge refreshed its approach to include three new core elements: payment of the real Living Wage, action to address the gender pay gap, and no inappropriate use of zero-hours contracts. Businesses were required to successfully demonstrate their commitment to these issues in order to remain signatories of the Pledge.

Stantec’s pledge was officially acknowledged after it showed its support for the new core elements. This included being awarded the 2020/21 Glasgow Living Wage Employer’s certificate and being named in Bloomberg’s 2020 Gender-Equality Index (GEI) after working to address the gender pay gap, create a gender diverse workforce, and adhering to consistent Gender Pay Gap reporting.

As a signatory, Stantec also had to successfully demonstrate its ongoing commitment to reduce environmental impact, to invest in a skilled and diverse workforce, the pursuit of international business opportunities, make prompt payments, support innovation, and play an active role in local communities.

“The pledge shows that Stantec is committed to promoting fairness and equality for the benefit of Scotland’s economic prosperity and sustainable growth”, said Michael.” It also shows that we are ready to collaborate with other businesses and institutions to ensure we are all working together to create best practices and progressive policies that will benefit Scottish communities.”
