Stantec shortlisted for four NCE Techfest awards

Stantec has been shortlisted in the Design Efficiency, Health, Safety & Wellbeing, Smart Data Collection and Technology Leader Trailblazer categories of the New Civil Engineer Techfest Awards 2021.

The awards recognise and reward projects, teams and companies who are harnessing the innovative use of technology to drive the construction and civil engineering industry forward.

Stantec was shortlisted in the Technology Leader Trailblazer category in recognition of the launch of Stantec.io - an integrated digital services approach combining emerging technologies with subject matter expertise to address timely client project challenges. Capturing Stantec’s digital services, solutions, and partnerships, Stantec.io is embedded within the firm’s existing business lines to deliver tailored solutions across varying industries, sectors, and clients.

The business, in partnership with client Yorkshire Water, was also recognised in the Smart Data Collection category for developing a pilot programme of property flood prevention monitoring that replaces conventional reactive responses. Utilising Flood Alerts, a cloud-based analytics solution, the Stantec team can determine which properties are at most risk of flooding, utilising machine learning to quantify the level of risk and design processes for sensor location selection.

Stantec was recognised by the judges in the Design Efficiency category for Route Selector - a data driven, powerful GIS based tool that represents an industry step change due to the dynamic nature of its pipeline routing.  Customisable through an intuitive geographical interface, the platform considers a range of possible routes against a long list of constraints, whilst incorporating engineering best practice. Its flexibility and speed ensures multiple scenarios can be run in a matter of seconds, resulting in a design solution that is uniquely aligned to the needs and drivers of both client and stakeholders.

Health, Safety & Wellbeing is at the forefront of the minds of Stantec’s digital team who developed the Fire Flow tool in partnership with London Fire Brigade and Thames Water. The tool creates a digital twin of every building in London, categorizing them based on fire flow requirements and local capacity. This provides fast, accurate data transfer between water suppliers and the fire service, ultimately helping emergency services teams make more informed, safer decisions. The Fire Flow tool recently won the Health and Safety Initiative award at the Water Industry Awards.

The winners will be revealed at the NCE Techfest Festival of Innovation and Technology on the 2^nd of December in London.
