Stantec’s Fire Flow wins ‘Analytical Insights’ award at Esri UK Customer Success Awards

Stantec is thrilled that its digital tool, Fire Flow, has won the ‘Analytical Insights’ award at the Esri UK Customer Success Awards 2022. The awards were held during this year’s Esri UK Annual Conference in London – the UK’s largest event focused on geographic information systems (GIS).

Fire Flow won the category for Analytical Insights where entrants had to demonstrate what they had revealed using Esri's analytical capabilities, focusing on how spatial and 3D analysis had allowed them to unlock hidden facets of data.

Fire Flow was developed with Thames Water and the London Fire Brigade. The system identifies specific hard-to-reach buildings where mitigations are needed to improve the availability of the water in the event of a fire. It is also being used during planning applications to ascertain if a building has sufficient water flow to permit change of use or new development.

The system predicts water flow capacity for firefighting and identifies where mitigation measures may be required or where more hydrants need to be installed. Fire Flow has quantified likely fire flows at each hydrant, so that London Fire Brigade firefighters can understand the performance of the hydrant network across the city.

Commenting on the award, Sunil Terkar, Principal GIS, at Stantec said: “We’re delighted to have won this award and recognition for Fire Flow. Our innovative use of spatial and 3D analysis for the first time quantified the likely fire flow at each hydrant in London and means we can understand hydrant performance across the city.
