Stantec shortlisted for four Environment Analyst ‘Sustainability Consulting’ Award 2022

07/25/2022 UNITED KINGDOM TSX, NYSE:STN

Stantec is delighted to be shortlisted in Environment Analyst’s inaugural Sustainability Consulting Awards. These awards recognise and celebrate innovation and technical excellence in the sector and applaud consultancies who have made significant advances in both their own and their clients’ sustainability journeys. Entries were open to environmental and sustainability consulting firms worldwide, as well as clients and partners.

Stantec has been shortlisted for four awards:

Weather extremes brought about by climate change pose existential threats to our infrastructure. But our climate is changing at a rate faster than our codes and standards can keep up with. We need to handle additional and rising risks to our infrastructure—both built and that which is currently being designed. Canadian engineers and climate scientists have built a climate risk assessment tool, PIEVC, that looks at the vulnerabilities of an infrastructure to extreme events brought about by climate change. It is proving invaluable in helping engineers, communities, and First Nations to examine infrastructure through the lens of climate change impacts.

In March 2022, Stantec launched its flexible salary sacrifice scheme in partnership with EV salary sacrifice and fleet management specialist, Fleet Evolution, to encourage UK employees to replace ICE vehicles with an electric and hybrid alternative. Stantec UK has committed to new carbon reduction objectives and targets, including a 47% reduction in GHGs by 2030 in the UK. Eligible employees will be able to lease up to two vehicles for two, three or four years. Subject to surveys, each lease holder will have an electric vehicle (EV) charge installed at their property, and for every five leases, there will be a two-port charge point installed at a Stantec UK office ensuring employees can charge while at work and alleviate range anxiety.

Brendan has been instrumental in developing Stantec’s capabilities around carbon sequestration and crediting through nature-based solutions. He is a founding member of our Technical Carbon Team and the Carbon Sequestration SME under Ecosystem Restoration. His extensive background is in ecology and biogeochemistry with expertise in calculating carbon impacts and quantifying successful climate mitigation associated with natural and managed ecosystems. He has led the assessment of projects across North America and has worked with others to create collaborative relationships with environmental professionals both internally and externally.

In December 2021, Stantec acquired the North America and Asia Pacific engineering and consulting groups of Cardno Limited. The acquisition adds 2,750 Cardno employees to Stantec, a large proportion being environmental professionals. Cardno’s key strengths in ESG advisory, ecosystem restoration, health sciences, infrastructure, water, and government services complement Stantec’s offerings in these growing sectors of the United States and Australia. Cardno has specialist expertise in the development and improvement of physical and social infrastructure for communities around the world.

Winners will be announced on 23 August at the Grand Hyatt Denver, Colorado, to coincide with Environment Analyst’s Global Business Summit.
