Stantec shortlisted for three British Construction Industry Awards

07/18/2022 UNITED KINGDOM TSX, NYSE:STN

We are proud to announce that Stantec has been shortlisted in three categories for the 2022 British Construction Industry Awards (BCIA).

The BCIA seek to recognise and reward excellence in project delivery and crucially, delivering outcomes for society. These awards also celebrate the hard work and dedication of the whole project team including clients, architects, designers and contractors.

Stantec is a finalist in the categories: Environment & Sustainability Initiative of the Year, Digital Initiative of the Year and Utility Project of the Year.

Yorkshire Water’s Clifton Wastewater Treatment Works – Integrated Constructed Wetland, designed by Stantec and delivered by Barhale Enpure JV, has been shortlisted for Environment & Sustainability Initiative of the Year.

Planted with over 24,000 wetland plants, this project is a low energy, environmentally friendly method of wastewater treatment – the first in England to treat all flows and the first ever Biodiversity Net Gain positive treatment works. This innovative solution has positively impacted the industry and attracted attention from various stakeholders across the industry.

The Digital Initiative of the Year submission showcases Stantec’s innovative ArcGIS Tall Building Smart Application Survey System that demonstrates the power of using the latest optimisation software to better understand how a water network can be managed.

Thames Water’s Hammersmith Pressure Management and Leakage Reduction Project was created to manage pressures and reduce leakage in Hammersmith, North London, which supplies water to 62,000 customers. The scheme required the reconfiguration of 25km of Victorian trunk main network and due to large numbers of tall buildings in the area a survey was required to determine which buildings might be affected by reductions in water pressure. Additionally, an economic assessment was made of where pressure reduction might occur and where installation of boosters to maintain water supply would reach an equilibrium. To support and deliver this scheme a tall building system was designed in ArcGIS with a linked smart app survey system used to import the survey information directly into the system, allowing engineers to assess which buildings may be affected.

Finally, Stantec’s joint entry with Esh for Utility Project of the Year, secured our third finalist position at these prestigious awards. Northumbrian Water’s Johnson Street Storm Overflow Screening project is designed to protect the River Tyne from aesthetic pollution, improving river quality for the benefit of Tyneside’s community, wildlife and environment.

To meet with new regulatory consents issued by the Environment Agency, the Esh-Stantec joint venture was appointed by Northumbrian Water to design and deliver this project. Works comprised of a new high flow volume mechanically self-cleansing screen installed within a large diameter shaft sunk into the Tyneside Interceptor Sewer, a new 1800mm storm overflow constructed using tunnelling techniques and 100m of channel break out to increase conveyance capacity of the critical existing sewer.

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on 12 October at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London.
