Stantec appoints UK Transmission and Distribution Director

01/19/2023 BRISTOL; UNITED KINGDOM TSX, NYSE:STN

Stantec, a global leader in sustainable engineering and design, has appointed Sophie Lee as the company’s Transmission and Distribution (T&D) Director for the UK. This strategic appointment comes as the firm continues to strengthen its position with key players across the nation’s energy sector.

Sophie, who has worked at Stantec since 2021, was promoted to the position following her time as Transmission and Distribution Lead. She has been instrumental in helping grow Stantec’s regional client base. She works with her team to help bring more green energy onto the UK grid, while supporting clients in navigating some of the industry’s biggest challenges.

Stantec has been rated the most sustainable company of its kind, with more than 27,000 employees worldwide and 20 locations in the UK. The company works with some of the most influential organisations in the UK energy sector, including National Grid, SSE, and other non-regulated companies. Stantec’s key specialisms for the T&D market include an extensive range of technical design services, project and programme management, and environmental services.

Commenting on her appointment, Sophie said: “Being able to help the UK transition to a low-carbon energy network and economy is vital when we look at our resilience amid current challenges. However, keeping processes as efficient and as cost-effective as possible for energy companies is a key factor.

“With two young children, it’s important for me, personally, to ensure they grow up in a world which is safe and sustainable. I’m delighted to be able to work with such a talented team of passionate experts who can support some of the biggest energy players in achieving their environmental and commercial goals.”

John Ord, Stantec’s Business Director, Energy and Resources, added: “In her relatively short time at Stantec, Sophie has played a critical part in developing our capability and offering to our energy network clients. By helping our clients take full advantage of our local and global T&D expertise, and by further expanding our team of experts, she will ensure we keep pushing the boundaries so we can deliver the most current and innovative solutions.”
