Stantec welcomes Oxford to Cambridge pan-regional partnership announcement

Plans for a locally led Pan-Regional Partnership (PRP) for the Oxford to Cambridge corridor have recently been approved by the government. The announcement should help unlock up to £2.5m of Government funding for the Oxford to Cambridge PRP, previously known as the Oxford-Cambridge Arc. The group will now aim to secure investments which can be put towards a range of social and economic benefits for the regions it represents. 

The news follows a proposal submitted to government by leaders from local councils, enterprise partnerships, the Arc Universities Group and the area’s transport body, England’s Economic Heartland. 

Global sustainable design and engineering firm, Stantec, has been a vocal advocate of the Oxford to Cambridge PRP, and previously collaborated with local stakeholders on a research paper: Unlocking the Arc. This paper explored the opportunities the PRP presents and the challenges that need to be overcome for it to be successful.

On the back of the recent announcement, Stantec’s Ron Henry, Regional Director, Community Development, has welcomed the move, calling for further collaborative action from Government and industry which supports environmentally sustainable and inclusive growth across UK regions.

Strategic and sustainable connectivity is key when considering a prosperous future for the UK. Ideally, local stakeholders can now operate the PRP in an efficient, coordinated way which will tackle community issues and quickly bring forth innovation and investment in urban centres.

“Whether its boosting transport connections, supporting resilience and net zero efforts, improving the electricity distribution network, or enhancing digital connectivity, this partnership has some important challenges to confront. Hopefully, we can help replicate its success across other areas of the country and boost the UK’s economic resilience.”
