Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design and engineering, is moving into its new Manchester home at 100 Barbirolli Square in the city centre.

Stantec has more than 28,000 employees worldwide and will be taking over the seventh floor of the iconic building near Bridgewater Hall in March 2024. The Company is expanding rapidly in the UK and Ireland and selected the space due to its flexibility to accommodate future growth.

As the firm continues to grow its headcount and expand its offering, 100 Barbirolli will combine staff from its two existing offices at Oxford Street and Bridge Street and be used as a hub to service clients in the North West and elsewhere.

Stantec has been ranked as one of the most sustainable companies in the world and provides a range of interdisciplinary consultancy services across the built environment to create sustainable, prosperous, and equitable communities. Its new Manchester office will see engineers, planners, economists, ecologists, acousticians, designers, and others unite in the city centre.

In the North West the company supports housebuilders, developers, operators, and landowners in boosting the provision of new homes and jobs, improving wellbeing, transforming mobility, and spearheading regeneration works. The firm also partners with local authorities and other public sector clients including Homes England. Stantec works closely with United Utilities in futureproofing and increasing the resilience of its water networks. The new Manchester office is expected to host a growing number of water services team members as the company quickly strengthens its offering for the UK water sector.

Stantec’s Manchester home has been designed with wellbeing, inclusion, and collaboration in mind. The refurbished workplace features co-working environments including zones for social activity, team building exercises, and general wellbeing. There will also be a number of creative areas for teams and clients to make use of.

“With so many incredible projects in the pipeline, we need to ensure we attract the best talent across a variety of important disciplines,” said Cath Schefer, Stantec’s Global chief operating officer. She continued: “We know the next generation of engineers and designers prioritise wellbeing and inclusivity, while having a dynamic, flexible workplace. Our new Manchester office will be a lively and aspirational hub right in the city centre.”

Dan Mitchell, planning director, at Stantec, commented: “We’ve enjoyed years of success from our Bridge Street and Oxford Street offices, but our rapid growth means we need to expand. 100 Barbirolli Square is the perfect new home for our friendly and professional teams in Manchester who will deliver vital development, resilience, and regeneration projects.”

Emma Steel, Water operations director for the North at Stantec added: “This impressive new office gives us the opportunity to support and reinforce the ambitious growth we’re seeing across our water business, especially in the stormwater space.”

Stantec planning director, Bernard Greep, commented: “This truly is a remarkable space in a fantastic location giving us room to quickly expand our technical and creative teams. We’re excited to use it to collaborate with clients on some of the most transformational built environment projects in this region and beyond.”
