Stantec Appoints new UK and Ireland Head of Later Living

Guy Flintoft joins Stantec, bolstering the company’s planning expertise around the retirement sector

04/23/2024 LONDON, UK TSX, NYSE:STN

Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design and engineering, has appointed Guy Flintoft to be the Company’s head of Later Living for the United Kingdom and Ireland. As a planning director with extensive policy expertise, as well as deep private and public sector experience, Flintoft is now leading Stantec’s UK and Ireland strategy for the retirement sector while promoting the firms’ expanding client offering nationwide.

Having worked in planning for more than 25 years, Flintoft’s career has spanned the industry, giving him a holistic perspective and level of insight around the country’s retirement housing challenges, requirements, and best practice.

Earlier in his career, Flintoft spent a decade working as a director at leading planning firm, Barton Willmore—a company Stantec acquired in 2023. Following this, he took on the role of director of Public Policy and Planning at Pegasus Homes, a national retirement and care housing developer and operator. He then moved to Retirement Villages Group where, as planning and design director, he led on planning strategy.

He now rejoins Stantec and his colleagues to help coordinate and grow the presence and capacity of the firm’s Later Living Practice across Stantec’s UK and Ireland offices. Stantec’s interdisciplinary teams work with developers, communities, operators, and local authorities to help plan for and design retirement homes and communities.

“Properly planning for later living is the most essential factor in futureproofing our communities and supports everyone’s long-term quality of life,” commented Flintoft on his appointment. “We need to change the perception of what this stage of our lives looks like, empowering developers and operators to create more suitable, aspirational places that keep people together, prevent isolation, bring about better experiences, and improve wellbeing.

“As a client of Stantec’s for many years, I’ve seen how adept we are at adding value on later living schemes, combining creative and technical skillsets, and having positive impacts across the sector. I’m excited to tap into our vast sector expertise and global knowledge.”

Nancy MacDonald, Stantec’s regional business lead for Infrastructure in the UK and Ireland, added: “Later Living represents a significant growth area for us as a business, and we have a responsibility to ensure that the retirement schemes we work on are driven by occupant wellbeing and value for communities. Guy’s appointment will help us develop our approach in this area, so we can continue to drive best-in-class later living projects.”
