Expanding recycled water in Southern California

April 01, 2026

On the Informed Infrastructure podcast, Joseph Long discusses a major recycled water pipeline and pump station serving the Inland Empire

On a recent episode of the Informed Infrastructure podcast, Joseph Long, senior principal at Stantec, and Adham Almasri from the Inland Empire Utilities Agency (IEUA) discussed their work advancing recycled water infrastructure in Southern California.

During the conversation, they explored the design of a new pump station and an 11‑mile recycled water pipeline in western San Bernardino County. The project will help convey recycled water from the City of Rialto’s wastewater treatment plant to IEUA’s proposed advanced water purification facility in Rancho Cucamonga, supporting long‑term water reliability in the region.

The discussion also touched on the project’s construction partner, Rados, as well as broader water supply challenges facing the Inland Empire, including how recycled water can be introduced into surface and underground reservoirs.
