Stantec receives five environmental awards focused on business practices and achievements

03/22/2022 SAN DIEGO, CA TSX,NYSE:STN

Stantec—a global leader in design, engineering, and environmental services―has been awarded five environmental awards focusing on the firm’s business practices and achievements. The Environmental Business Journal awarded Stantec three awards, while the Climate Change Business Journal named the firm a winner in two award categories.

The Environmental Business Journal is Environmental Business International’s premier publication, providing thoughtful insights on emerging opportunities in the environmental industry, the climate change industry, as well as the Green Economy. It defines 13 business segments including remediation, environmental consulting & engineering, water/wastewater, instrumentation, and air pollution control. The Environmental Business Journal Business Achievement Awards for Stantec are:

  • Business Achievement: Mergers & Acquisitions
Stantec’s strategic plan includes the growth of its environmental services capacity through mergers and acquisitions. In September, full-service natural and cultural resources management-consulting company Paleo Solutions Inc. of Monrovia, California, joined the firm. In October, Stantec announced the acquisition of the North America and Asia Pacific engineering and consulting groups of Cardno Limited for US$500 million. Cardno’s key strengths in ecosystem restoration, health sciences, infrastructure, water, and government services are complementary to Stantec’s offerings in these growing sectors in the US and Australia. Lastly, at year’s end, Stantec signed an agreement to acquire Cox|McLain Environmental Consulting Inc. of Austin, Texas, a full-service environmental consulting firm that provides comprehensive environmental and cultural resource compliance services.
  • New Practice Areas: Debris Flow & Avalanche Prediction
Stantec was named a New Practice winner for developing DebrisFlow Predictor. The outcomes generated by the modelling tool can help make decisions that preserve communities, infrastructure, and the environment. DebrisFlow Predictor is the latest advancement in the firm’s suite of geohazards solutions to make the world a safer place. To get ahead of the devastating effects of debris flow and avalanches, Stantec’s debris flow software uses data and controls to inform a numerical model and simulate the complex behavior and runout of debris flows.
  • Diversity & Inclusion
In alignment with the firm’s commitment to inclusion and diversity, Stantec was recognized for its efforts to create an inclusive environment that attracts and develops global talent and is a place where everyone can bring their whole selves to work. The firm was recognized by Forbes as one of the World’s Top Female-Friendly Companies in 2021, in addition to being named one of America’s Best Employers for Diversity in 2021. The company also launched the Stantec Equity & Diversity Scholarship to provide students from historically underrepresented groups with financial aid, contributing to the creation of a critical mass that will fully represent diverse communities in their industry.

The Environmental Business Journal Business Achievement Awards were presented earlier this month at the Environmental Industry Summit XX in San Diego, California.

The Climate Change Business Journal, launched in 2007 as a business research publication under Environmental Business International, serves as the centerpiece of business intelligence, providing detailed market research on all segments of the climate change industry. Climate Change Business Journal Business Achievement Awards for Stantec include:

  • Project Merit: Climate Change Adaptation & Resilience
Stantec developed a team of climatologists, engineers, and scientists with a focus on climate change adaptation and resilience to support The City and County of Honolulu. Stantec established climate assessment timescales, determined relevant and plausible climate scenarios that impact projects, and generated local climate profiles that apply to the immediate and future challenges that projects face.
  • Practice Development: Climate Change Adaptation & Resilience
The firm received a Practice Development award, recognizing its longstanding work on resilient adaptation and mitigation, climate advisory services and net zero, as well as the development of a comprehensive Climate Solutions service to support clients. Stantec’s Climate Solutions empower a diverse range of design and consulting professionals with the expertise they need to help clients see projects through a climate lens—and then act on what they find.
