This exciting park and community center provides residents with gathering spaces for the young and young at heart
To revitalize the community, the local Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) enlisted the help of the RDC Design/Build team, which included Stantec, to reconstruct the existing Gibson Park located in a historic, but blighted area in Miami.
Our team designed improvements to the park that include a LEED-Gold certified, 6,700-square-foot recreation building and aquatics center, as well as sports field improvements, landscape improvements, a gymnasium, bowling alley, and a 22,000-square-foot multi-purpose community center (including classrooms). The project also included a children’s play area, an indoor NBA standards basketball court, a perimeter walking trail, concession stands, and associated parking.
With its bright rainbow colors, Olympic-size swimming pool, and crisp new play fields, Gibson Park symbolizes hope and new beginnings. Attractive and engaging community centers, like this one, provide safe places for residents and help transform former distressed areas into welcoming community centers—just the thing to bring new life to an urban place.
