Providing potable water for a well-established neighborhood in Sarasota County
On the gulf coast between Roberts Bay and Dona Bay is Nokomis, Florida. Sailing, beaches, fishing—and drinking water drawn from wells. Sarasota County’s challenge was to bring clean, fresh drinking water to a very old, well-established neighborhood. The streets were narrow. The logistics were difficult.
We designed the three-phase installation. The largest phase, nearly doubling the first phase by length, was completed six months ahead of schedule and almost $1M under budget! And the method recommended allowed for the installation of mains with minimal disruption to daily life for residents. How? The large scale use of directional drill techniques—horizontal installation.
In total, over 31 miles (50 kilometres) of new water mains run under this Sarasota County community. Mains that service nearly 2,200 families—people enjoying the water.
