Stantec wins five Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards

Awards honor Stantec projects in Alberta and the Northwest Territories

10/30/18 Edmonton Alberta, New York, York TSX, NYSE:STN

Stantec has been honored with five Canadian Consulting Engineering (CCE) Awards, presented jointly by  the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies - Canada (ACEC) and Canadian Consulting Engineer magazine. The awards recognize exceptional engineering projects by Canadian firms and highlight the important work consulting engineers do in communities across Canada and the world. For the second year in a row, Stantec received the Engineering A Better Canada award. This year, the award recognized Stantec’s work on the Inuvik—Tuktoyaktuk Highway project. The Engineering A Better Canada Award highlights how engineering enhances the social, economic or cultural quality of life of Canadians.

Award of Excellence – Buildings
Calgary Compost Facility – Recycling water to make a positive impact

The City of Calgary vows to divert 80% of landfill waste by 2020, and this composting facility is a step in the right direction. It’s the first commercial building in Alberta registered under LEED® v4, with several sustainable design features that complement its function.

Award of Excellence – Water
EPCOR Grit Treatment and Recovery Facility – Implementing HUBER technology

The GTRF was fully commissioned in October 2017 and will be a showcase piece for EPCOR and Stantec. The facility provides an environmentally-sound, safe, and clean method of grit recovery that was delivered on schedule and within budget while meeting the needs of EPCOR and its stakeholders.

Award of Excellence – Transportation
Terwillegar Footbridge - Designing the first three span, stressed-ribbon bridge in Canada

Our project team designed a floating path concept in Edmonton that was based on a proven and economical bridge design for large span footbridges: the stressed ribbon. The three-span bridge will complement the river valley’s natural setting with its elegance and simplicity, while also providing users with the unique sensation of floating across water.

Award of Excellence & Special Achievement Award (Engineering A Better Canada Award) - Transportation
Inuvik-Tuktoyaktuk Highway – Connecting Canada from coast to coast to coast

Former Prime Minister John Diefenbaker had a vision: to connect our great nation from coast to coast to coast. The idea sat dormant for decades but by the break of the new millennium, the project began to gain traction. Now, after nearly 60 years in the making, the Inuvik to Tuktoyaktuk Highway is finally realizing Diefenbaker’s dream by closing out the last 140-kilometer stretch of road infrastructure towards Canada’s northern shores.

The 50th Canadian Consulting Engineer Awards took place on October 23, 2018 in Ottawa, Ontario. Twenty Awards of Excellence were handed out in a range of categories. Of these, five were recognized with additional Special Achievement Awards for demonstrating the highest level of technical innovation, dedication to the environment, Canadian expertise abroad, and engineering that most enhances Canadians’ social, economic or cultural quality of life.
