Resiliency and recovery for communities in need are the top priorities for John Bucher. Passionate about advancing communities, John is a senior planner based in Louisville, Kentucky—his work is focused on building resilience through community development, climate adaptation, and hazard mitigation.
John is an avid author and presenter on the topics of community development and resilience. He was primary author for the Community Resiliency Toolkit created for FEMA Region II. The Toolkit was designed to serve as a roadmap for municipal leaders in New Jersey as they work to become more resilient.
John’s favorite part of his job is community outreach and exploring innovative approaches to facilitating workshops and meetings. When he’s not at the office, you’re likely to find him at planning related events in Kentucky and Indiana, since he serves as Public Outreach Committee Chair for the Kentucky Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA-KY) and is active in the Urban Land Institute and Congress for the New Urbanism local chapters.
