Sami is a community-focused architect with a passion for the pre-design process, including planning, programming, and user and community engagement. As a past Challenge Detroit fellow, Sami has experience in community-led design initiatives and knows the importance of engagement throughout the design process. Stantec’s commitment to community, putting people first, and doing what is right is what drew her the Company, and what keeps her here—bringing her expertise into the Company’s processes and projects.
With extensive user and community engagement as the foundation for a campus-wide space plan, Sami was instrumental in bringing together over 45 unique user groups to inform the design. This plan advised the institution on the highest and best use of their existing buildings on campus and where they may need to consider future investments into their campus facilities.
Sami lives in the City of Detroit with her husband and two dogs. She likes to spend their free time camping, traveling, and renovating their 1940s home. The four of them also spend most of their weekends exploring the city’s unique cultural institutions—food and drinks, retail, museums, art, and parks.
