Heather, a geographic information system (GIS) specialist with our Environmental Services team, joined Stantec in 2012. She has her masters in Geography from Memorial University, focused in Remote Sensing. She’s completed remote sensing and GIS work in the private sector, and she’s combined that with experience from her masters of science.
Her experience also includes geo-statistical and spatial analyses as well as cartography. During the James Bay Eelgrass project, Heather’s job was to map the quantity and extent of eelgrass beds along the eastern shore of James Bay, Quebec. She processed satellite imagery and used a classification scheme to identify eelgrass without extensive field programs. She’s also spent three years documenting the extent and effectiveness of pond weed harvesting at Lake Banook and Lake MicMac in Nova Scotia.
Heather also specializes in data management and data visualization for environmental assessments and environmental impact statements for offshore (Newfoundland) oil and gas projects.
