Providing students and teachers with a collaborative learning environment that supports their vision
Beachwood High School hadn’t been renovated since the 1980s. Classrooms were out of date, facilities were reaching the end of their service lives, and the entire package no longer supported the district’s educational vision. Using Revit and BIM tools to analyze the design and develop construction documents, our integrated design team created a plan that would revitalize the school and minimize costs.
By replacing only targeted sections of the school, our teams reduced costs and focused on clever renovations to reinvent Beachwood High School. With a brand new media center (focusing on technology and collaboration) and manufactured collision spaces along circulation paths, this new design works to encourage the exchange of ideas. The STEM programs were united together by reorganizing the existing plan, and an entire 1960s classroom wing was replaced. The music and arts area was also relocated, and a new football stadium and new locker facilities were added.
With project phasing, the design and construction was achieved with minimum disruption to the educational environment and maximum safety considerations for the students, staff, and community. When completed, Beachwood High School will be an ambitious space for learning.
